SCOTT MCGUFFIE

With 20 years’ experience in branding, Scott’s award winning career began in his final year at University –  when he won a silver in the D&AD Students award. Working at Interbrand and The Partners prior to joining ASHA, Scott has worked on large branding programmes for Barclays, HM Samuel, Standard Life, Telstra (Australia’s largest telecomm company), ABN Amro, FIFA, One World, WWF, YMCA, ERS and Agrii. His work has appeared in the D&AD Annual 8 times and has won multiple awards including Design Week, Graphis, Roses and Cream. (His most notable projects are developing designs for Monopoly money and designing the board for Pictionary)!


“Every other Wednesday night is International Food Night in the McGuffie household. I’m a family man and we all get involved, my two children Bruno and Mia have activity sheets that I make related to our chosen country of the evening while my wife Ellie and I are busy in the kitchen cooking up some local dishes. French night was a particular favourite with the kids colouring in the Eiffel Tower and Ellie and I tackling the crème brulee!

My interest in cooking started when my friend and I took part in a cookery course whilst in Sicily. It was great, there was such an exciting and social atmosphere to it all that I couldn’t help but carry on experimenting when I got back home. My favourite dish is pan fried mozzarella balls with romesco sauce followed by tagliatelle al limone because it reminds me of those first lessons in Italy, and the kids agree that it beats beans on toast any day!

I love the explorative element of cooking. Combining unusual foods and fusing together different flavours using recipes from around the world. It gives me the chance to be creative out of the office and gets the whole family involved. It isn’t the typical school night dinner in front of the TV and it is a good way of increasing the children’s knowledge of different cultures through meal times. It also teaches them the importance and value of sitting around a dinner table and spending time with each other. I dedicate a lot of my time nurturing and guiding the designers at ASHA, and things like this ensure that I get to do that at home with my family too. We all go and buy the ingredients fresh from the local market in Tewkesbury, which is another family event that the kids look forward to and we love to make a morning of it.”
